Homemade Peach Salsa Recipe

There is nothing like a little fruit salsa to take the edge off your summer snack cravings. When I was in the deep south, I was introduced to an amazing peach salsa recipe. It’s the perfect combo of a summer fruit and veggie coming together. This salsa is not only a yummy treat but offers useful sun protection. Canadian Living lists tomatoes in their top 10 best foods for beautiful, healthy skin. The active ingredient that makes tomatoes so special is lycopene. This ingredient is a carotene that has the ability to block UV light. Lycopene is no substitute for sunscreen but ingesting it will add a little boost of protection. In order to be most effective, tomatoes must be cooked.

To put this sun-protecting salsa into action check out the recipe below.


Peach Salsa


½ red onion

1 tsp. of salt

1 clove of garlic

1 tbsp. of olive oil

2 fresh peaches

1 small lime, squeezed

3 large, fresh tomatoes

2 tbsp. of cilantro, or to taste


1. Fill a large pot of water and bring to a boil. Place tomatoes in boiling water until the skin begins to peel. Once the skin has started to shed in the boiling water, transfer the tomatoes to a bowl of cool water.

2. Once cooled, peel the skin and dice the tomatoes.

3. Chop peaches, cilantro, onion and garlic. Combine all ingredients in a big bowl.

4. Douse the salsa in olive oil and lime juice.
